STAFF NEWS | SPRING 2019
If you’ve been keeping up to date with all the latest development at Mill Volvo, you’ll know it’s been a busy few months.
But our continued growth is only possible thanks to the continued support and commitment from our dedicated team members. With so many changes occurring, we wanted to take the opportunity to share the success of our incredible Mill team and introduce you to some of our new team members.
First up we celebrate the success of our current employees:
Long Recognition Award
We’re delighted to announce that senior technician, Andrew Alexander, from Mill Stockton has recently received an award for Long Service Recognition. Andrew started out as an apprentice technician in 1979, so has clocked up 40 years’ service for Mill. He is now one of the most recognised faces at the Mill Stockton dealership and is popular with both staff and customers.
We had a quick chat with Andrew to reflect on his 40 years’ service.
How do you feel about reaching 40 years?
“It’s been a long time, but 40 years well spent.”
Do you have any stories from the last 40 years?
“Nothing I would like to disclose!”
Do you feel like a lot has changed?
“Oh yeah, very much. Everything has developed for the better, both the products and the company. Volvo is introducing new innovative technology and releasing a string of new designs, so there’s always something new to learn and work with.”
The entire Mill family would like to wish Andrew a huge congratulations for his achievements and offer a huge thank you for his continued hard work and dedication to Mill.
Salesman of the Year
High-flyer Sham Rashid, from Mill Stockton, has scooped the salesman of the year award for the fifth year running!
Sham joined the Mill team six years ago and made a great first impression quickly becoming one of the best performing salesman, an accolade he is clearly unwilling to let go. He has a wealth of knowledge of Mill and the Volvo brand and is a go-to expert at the Stockton dealership.
Sham is still as enthusiastic about his job as he was when he started, saying:
“I don’t see my job as ‘selling’. My job is to deliver a high standard of service to my customers and deliver the best products available to them for the best price. If you believe in your product, then your customers will, and Volvo makes that easy by producing such a fantastic range which customers love and trust. The best thing about the job is selling a car to a repeat customer.”
On top of his success at work Sham also recently got married, so we’d like to wish him success and happiness in the years to come.
It’s not just Sham who is at the top of the sales table. Hot on his heels, are Adam Day from Mill Sunderland and Nathan Allan from Mill Newcastle. They have both scooped Top Salesman awards this year for their impressive sales performance.
Both started their careers with Mill as trainees in 2015. They have completed Volvo’s comprehensive twelve-week ‘New to car sales’ training and development program. This has given them a great basis in product knowledge and customer service, which has been instrumental in them making it to the top of the sales tables.
We caught up with both of them to see what they had to say:
“Over the years, Mill has helped me gain invaluable experience and knowledge in the industry while always encouraging and helping me to be the best I can be at my job. I enjoy working for a company where I can promote premium cars that are not only safe and sustainable but with technology that is constantly adapting and exceeding customers’ expectations. When you’ve got a product like Volvo to work with, you know you can deliver the service your customers deserve every time” says Nathan Allan.
Adam Day says “It’s not all about making the sale. Mill is a great example of that as they continue to invest the time into their staff like myself and in turn, I do that with my customers to ensure I understand them and their needs. Volvo completely renewing their range to some of the best cars on the market ensures that there really is something for all types of customers.”
There has also been a number of new appointments across the Mill group:
Newly Appointed Service Manager
Glen Abnett has been appointed as the new Service Manager at Mill Sunderland.
Glen first started out with Mill as a Level 2 Service Technician seven years ago. Since then, he has progressed to Level 3E Tech and then onto the new role of workshop Andon for 3 years before being promoted to Senior Workshop Support. His commitment and hard work over the years ensured that he was the perfect candidate to become our new Service Manager.
Here’s what he had to say:
“I have really enjoyed the challenge of my career journey with Mill Volvo to date, and I am looking forward to proving myself as a successful Service Manager.”
A Warm Welcome
We’d like to wish a warm welcome to Mark Jackson and David Levett who are joining the team at Mill Stockton. Mark will be the new Sales Manager at Mill Stockton and will bring extensive experience from his twelve years working at Stoneacre Thirsk Ford dealership.
We asked Mark what he was most looking forward to most in his new role:
“I have been in the motor industry since 2002 and have worked for a number of franchises, but the chance to manage in a Volvo dealership is very exciting to me, as the Volvo car range is going from strength to strength.”
Meanwhile, David will be joining as the General Manager. He too has a wealth of experience having worked in the motor trade for the past ten years; two of which have been spent with Mill. So when the role of a General Manager came up, we knew that David was the man for the job.
Here’s what David his looking forward to in his new role:
“Mainly the new challenge of controlling the whole branch, it is a big step for me at only 32. There are a lot of areas I need to learn and become stronger in, which I am looking forward to which will help my future development within Mill/Stoneacre. I want to ensure my staff are happy and feel supported, and that they deliver outstanding service throughout each step of the customer journey. I want Stockton to be known as the Dealer to go to if you want to buy a Volvo in the North East.”
